What is an ERP?
The term ERP stands for enterprise resource planning. An ERP is a software solution that is used by manufacturers and wholesale distributors to run day-to-day business operations including accounting, procurement, managing customers, pricing and more. For most manufacturers and wholesale distributors, their ERP is the source of truth for all of the critical data across their organization.
There are many different ERP solutions available including some that are specific to wholesale distribution like Epicor Prophet 21, Epicor Eclipse, Infor FACTS, and Infor SX.e. Others are specific to manufacturing like Epicor ERP, Infor SyteLine, QAD Manufacturing Pro, Plex Systems, and Infor System 21. Some ERP solutions are designed for either manufacturing or wholesale distribution including Epicor Cloud ERP, IFS, JD Edwards, Infor ERP, Infor CloudSuite, Microsoft ERP, Microsoft Dynamics 365, Microsoft Dynamics AX, Microsoft Dynamics GP, Microsoft Dynamics NAV, Oracle Netsuite, Oracle Cloud, Oracle Peoplesoft, and SAP.
When companies select an ERP to power their business, they often consider how well the systems will integrate into other systems like eCommerce and CRM.
