St Louis based Nidec Motor Corporation is a leading manufacturer of commercial, industrial, and appliance motors and controls, and is a division of Kyoto, Japan-based Nidec. As a specialty manufacturer, Nidec Motor Corporation primarily sells through distribution channels, and relies heavily on their channel partners to reach new customers and markets to grow their overall business. Their sales team is dedicated to supporting their channel partners with a high degree of product knowledge and expertise. Nidec Motor Corporation is committed to their channel partners, with a goal to make it as easy as possible for their distributors to conduct business with them.


The overall dynamic of Nidec Motor Corporation’s channel partners is changing, as a larger percentage of salespeople are expecting a digital user experience, while others are still wanting a more traditional interactive experience. Nidec Motor Corporation wants to provide all their channel partners the best path to get their job done, regardless of how they wish to accomplish it. As a specialty manufacturer, Nidec Motor Corporation knows that many different types of users will be using the site for different reasons; from conducting research and evaluating products, looking for the right solution for their customers, to buyers wanting to place orders and procure product, and for many other needs. Nidec Motor Corporation’s channel partners require and prioritize efficiency, and Nidec Motor Corporation needed to find a way to deliver that experience.

The existing channel partner portal was not providing the experience that the partners required, and Nidec Motor Corporation realized the need to find a better overall solution. While design and user experience were important, the most critical aspect to their new channel partner portal was to offer a best in class search experience. Nidec Motor Corporation’s overall objective was to deliver a way for their channel partners to get what they are looking for as quickly and efficiently as possible.


Knowing that they needed to find a solution that was going to not only deliver on where Nidec Motor Corporation was today, but where they would be going in the future as well, they began the process of evaluating eCommerce solutions. Nidec Motor Corporation required a platform that had a focus on B2B, and a deep understanding of the unique needs of the business customer including:

  • Responsive web design
  • Customizable where it was required to meet their unique business needs
  • Expandable so the solution can grow and expand, and the flexibility to adapt to the changing business

Nidec Motor Corporation chose to relaunch their channel partner portal using InsiteCommerce, because they knew the solution not only met their needs today, but provided a flexible and expandable solution for the future.

“Insite has a deep understanding of the complexities associated with B2B, and their eCommerce solution handles those complexities right out of the box,” said Scott Garrett, Nidec Motor Corporation’s eBusiness Director. “We have very complex pricing rules, and Insite manages those complexities better than the other solutions we looked at,” said Garrett. The New MotorBoss—Nidec Motor Corporation’s name for their channel partner site—allows their users to log in and research products, place orders, check inventory, review order history, and conduct many other tasks they need to do to run their business relative to Nidec Motor Corporation products.


Nidec Motor Corporation’s channel partners are very happy with the new version of MotorBoss, as demonstrated by a 25% overall rise in order volumes from the previous year on the old site. In fact, overall online sales are growing faster than Nidec Motor Corporation’s other partner ordering options. “We are very pleased with Insite,” said Garrett. “We see the value of the solution, and have plans to use Insite to expand both internationally, as well as add additional brands to our eCommerce site.” Garrett continued: “In fact, the value of the platform goes beyond a single solution, and we are using Insite to power our eCatalog on our main website, and it also powers our cross-reference tool.”

Looking towards the future, Garrett said: “We anticipate an increasingly significant part of our business moving to online commerce. This is one of the reasons we selected Insite, as we believe they are designed to stay ahead of the B2B curve.”
