Getting Products Off the Ground by Taking eCommerce to New Heights

Less than 3 months after launch of InsiteCommerce TestEquity DOUBLED daily RFQs

TestEquity sees more than 1,800 daily website users

Founded in 1971, launched InsiteCommerce in May 2019

From Concept to Completion, TestEquity Leads in Testing and Electronic Production Supplies

For 45 years, TestEquity has met the test, tool kit and electronic supply needs of the aerospace, defense, automotive, electronics, education, and medical industries.
For the likes of NASA to General Motors and beyond, TestEquity is dedicated to helping customers solve the toughest technical and financial challenges so they can get their products off the ground.

TestEquity’s 500 dedicated specialists apply speed, efficiency and knowledge to provide customers with the right solutions and services exactly when, and precisely how they need them.

Stronger than Ever

Recently, TestEquity merged the expertise and experience of highly respected industry leaders, Techni-Tool and Jensen Tools into one trusted company. The acquisition made the company even stronger, positioning TestEquity as a leading single-source solution partner to more than 200,000 customers.

To best serve their customers, TestEquity has put a focus on investing in the latest technologies and building better user experiences.

A Changing Marketplace

It’s no secret that the way we make purchases today is far different than it was decades ago. TestEquity recognized changing market conditions like preferences to self-serve and younger buyers entering the workforce and made a decision to revamp their technology stack.

As an early adopter of eCommerce, TestEquity had a custom solution in place to answer the changing needs of its customers. However, the solution was not integrated to TestEquity’s ERP, was not responsive and was built on outdated technology.

We talked to Jeff Hileman, Director of eCommerce at TestEquity to learn more about the company’s eCommerce journey.

An Investment in a Better Future

Test Equity needed a powerful eCommerce platform that would enable them to quickly serve the needs of their customers and provide a better online experience than the custom solution they had in place.

A suitable platform would offer:

  • Customization capabilities
  • Reliable and scalable infrastructure
  • Ability to consolidate existing web platforms
  • Mobile compatibility
  • Real-time inventory
  • PunchOut integrations

Today, TestEquity leverages InsiteCommerce for eCommerce.

“Insite is different from a B2C eCommerce platform or a simple extension of an ERP. It has B2B features built in and is customizable,” said Hileman.

Insite Products TestEquity is Leveraging:

  • InsiteCommerce
  • InsiteAnalytics for eCommerce

Launching InsiteCommerce

TestEquity launched its eCommerce site in May 2019 and has already seen improved efficiencies, increased customer self-service events and increased RFQ volume.

“We’ve learned a lot from launch. We’re already seeing great results in terms of the efficiencies of our team and our customers’ ability to serve themselves,” said Hileman.

The website enables TestEquity customers to seamlessly research and purchase more than 15,000 products.

RFQ’s: The Lifeblood of the Business

For TestEquity, Request for Quote (RFQ) submissions are the lifeblood of the business. Prior to launching InsiteCommerce, the company saw about 15 RFQs per day. Just 3 months after the launch of the site, Test Equity has nearly doubled daily RFQs, seeing an average of 30 per day.

A Deep Partnership

TestEquity didn’t just launch a site and call it a day. The company is heavily invested in transforming the business with eCommerce. As a member of Insite’s Customer Advisory Board, Jeff is continuously offering feedback about the InsiteCommerce platform.

“I definitely feel like a valued customer. I mean that with all sincerity. Insite makes me feel like we are part of the team. Like we are in it together. The partnership is great.”

Currently TestEquity also maintains the Techni-Tool and JensenTool brands. Looking ahead, TestEquity plans to migrate the brands and domains (technitool.com and jensentools.com) under the TestEquity name and onto InsiteCommerce. To accommodate the changing needs of buyers, TestEquity is considering building an eCommerce mobile app in the future.

The new eCommerce website is part of TestEquity’s ongoing digital transformation strategy in solidifying the company’s position as the industry-leading, single-source provider of testing and electronic production supplies.
