Managing Inventory During the Picking Process

Have your pickers ever been directed to a bin, only to find that the inventory is no longer there? Or have you ever had two pickers at the same bin, fighting over the last item that they both need? Those instances are things of the past with InsiteShip software for SyteLine and VISUAL.

Developed with an internal allocations process to ensure that pickers are never competing for the same inventory, InsiteShip assigns available inventory to orders with the oldest requested ship date first. If the same inventory is needed by two customers on the same day, InsiteShip will honor your unique priority settings to make sure the inventory goes to your most important customer first. Likewise, if two order pickers each have an order with 75 units but there are only 100 units on hand, the picker with the order for the priority customer will be directed to pick the full 75 units. The second picker will be directed to pick 25 units, so no matter who gets to the bin first; your priority customer is assured a complete order. The remaining units from the second picker’s order will be backordered and fulfilled when inventory is replenished.

Taking the Headache Out of Order Packing

Ever played the game “What’s in the box?” How about, “Which items are on that skid?” We know that guessing about your shipments is never fun and InsiteShip is designed to easily answer these questions, without breaking any packing tape.

As items are packed into their shipping container, InsiteShip records the detail of what is being packed, including lot and serial number information. Each container is given a unique ID and a label detailing the contents of the container. Additionally, as items are being packed, they are validated against the order to assure that the correct items and quantities are being sent to your customer.

What if the box or skid has already shipped? No problem. The contents of each container can be reviewed directly from your SyteLine or VISUAL customer order screens. Now when a customer tells you that box 2 of 3 was damaged or is missing, you will immediately know what was in that box so that you can quickly remedy your customer’s problem.

InsiteShip Radio Frequency (RF) Module

The InsiteShip RF Module improves real-time communication from your ERP to your picking and packing operations. First, the InsiteShip RF Module creates a picking queue from the orders in your SyteLine or VISUAL system. This queue is used to generate the “virtual pick sheet” that is sent to a picker’s hand-held RF device. Using their hand-held RF device, the picker is directed to the next order they are required to fill, the item they need to pick, and the location they need to pick it from. As the items are picked, the picker records which container the items are being packed in. With that, the picking and packing has been completed quickly and easily.

In addition to streamlining the picking and packing process, InsiteShip RF assures that orders are being fulfilled according to your preset order priority, ensuring that your most important customers get their orders first if you run short on inventory. Pick sheets—and the problems associated with them—are eliminated as well.
