As the fastest-growing distribution source for retailers and electronics systems contractors, Capitol Sales was looking for a new ecommerce solution to support their distribution network. Headquartered in Eagan, Minnesota, Capitol Sales provided home theater, telephone, integrated home systems, and commercial A/V products to more than 110 unique distributors and needed an ecommerce site that would scale with their growing business as well as allow them the flexibility to make changes to their site in-house.

Their current dealer portal was inflexible, cumbersome to use, and provided limited promotional capability that was expensive to implement. Additionally, integration with the company’s enterprise resource planning (ERP) and other back-end systems was challenging and dealers could not see which items were currently available in inventory and which were on backorder, resulting in order issues. Capitol Sales knew that they needed a different solution and set the aggressive goal of creating a B2B site that dramatically increased functionality and improved customer experience for their electronic retail customers and contractors.

After considering their options, Capitol Sales chose InsiteCommerce as their ecommerce solution and charged Insite with creating a site that featured an interactive user experience as well as integrated with their ERP, Infor SX.enterprise.

Insite Software, producer of InsiteCommerce, worked directly with the Capitol Design Agency to define the new site’s look and feel and to design its new intuitive navigation. The result was a pixel-perfect version of the agency’s design, created using the InsiteCommerce toolset. The new site design included video, flash, and advanced search functionality that allowed customers to quickly research and purchase their electronics.

In addition to a brand new look and feel, the new Capitol Sales ecommerce site was deeply and fully integrated with Infor SX.enterprise and the company’s other back-end systems. Using the robust Promotions Engine and the Management Console included in the InsiteCommerce platform, Capitol Sales was able to quickly implement new promotions as well as easily update the content of the site.
