After reading the title of today’s post, I imagine that you’re thinking, “Duh! Who is the woman anyway?” I realize that the title states the obvious, but I thought that maybe it was time to remind myself–and you, fair reader–that ecommerce has changed the way people shop and it will never be the same again.
Case in point: Last week I was at the Internet Retailer convention in Chicago. It’s one of the major ecommerce industry tradeshows and all the movers and shakers are there. One of the booths was handing out these hysterical buttons that actually got me to stop and pay attention. The slogans on the buttons that I remember include:
“I shop in my cubicle.”
“I shop during keynotes.”
“I shop at red lights.”
“I shop in my underwear.”
“I shop without every touching a cart.”
Now, these are funny because they are sort of outlandish at first glance. And then they’re really funny because they’re TRUE. Your customers are shopping in the strangest places and to keep up with the competition, your ecommerce initiative must allow them to shop when and where makes the most sense for them.
